2024: year of the Olympics… and of the bike!
For Heppner, 2024 was the year that cycle logistics took off. A total of 1.4% of the Heppner Group’s deliveries were made by cycle logistics in 18 cities, significantly above the figures for 2023. The Olympic Games effect contributed to this, since Heppner chose to innovate with a system never used before in Paris, guaranteeing continuity of service for its customers during this exceptional period.

“Working with our cycle logistics partners, we have devised a system of trucks acting as remote hubs in authorised parking zones in Paris. The final part of the journey was performed using cycle logistics, completing pallet deliveries in restricted areas. This pioneering approach offers promising prospects!”
Recognition of a job well done!
Heppner received an award at the National Meeting of the InTerLUD+ Programme – whose goal is to develop sustainable urban logistics – for its contribution to the success of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Cycle logistics: strengths, limitations and prospects
Traditionally limited to small parcels, the diversification of cycle logistics equipment now enables pallet deliveries. This method is becoming increasingly popular, as it offers numerous advantages: zero-carbon delivery, compliance with urban regulations (low-emission zones, restricted traffic zones, etc.) and access to narrow streets and locations.
However, in order to build efficient, fast and cost-effective cycle logistics solutions, certain conditions are essential for operators, including:
- Having a well-located premises in the town is essential for optimising routes and reducing costs.
- Being close to carriers’ parcels agencies to limit the economic and environmental impact of transporting goods to the cycle logistics hubs.
And tomorrow?
Public financial support is available to develop this business segment, notably through the Coli’s Activ scheme, which subsidises transport and cycle logistics companies up to 2 euros per location, and the Cyclo Cargologie programme, which supports interested players through guides, forums and hub visits.
